2011 PosterWhat is the Soap Box Derby of the Desert?
It is the local race of the world famous, Soap Box Derby where boys and girls assemble and race cars that are gravity powered. Parents are invited to participate in every step of the way. From encouraging their children to race, to offering advice and tools. From guiding them through the inspection stage to cheering them on at race day. Family participation is a key element of a successful experience. The goals of the Soap Box Derby have not changed much since it started in 1934. It teaches basic skills, helps develop a strong work ethic and enforces the positive values inherent in competition and perseverance.

Who can Participate?
Coachella Valley boys and girls ages 7-17 can become racers. Parents can participate during the building process and event day activities. Sponsors and Volunteers can participate by donating their time or resources.

November 19, 2011 - 9am - 1pm - Clinic at Palm Desert Community Center for Rally Race preparation and car building.

Rally Race – Dec. 10, 2011The Desert Recreation District and the city of Palm Desert welcome you to our first winter rally race of the season. This race site will be used for the 3rd consecutive year, which has a nice turn in the road to make racing a little more exciting. Region 2 is excited to have our 3rd consecutive year of Rally Races in the Desert and looks forward to providing another great season for our local and visiting racers.This rally race promises to be a fun event.

Registration: $35.00 per race. Make checks payable to: Desert Recreation District

Location: Gateway Drive between Dinah Shore and 35th Avenue (Behind Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club)

Schedule:
6:00am - 8:30am - Check in and weigh ins
8:30am - 9:00am - Test runs for new drivers
9:00am - Race begins

Race Format: Track set-up and sign-in Weigh-in and inspection Practice runs as needed for first time drivers. Racing Starts
One double elimination and one single elimination race on Saturday. Lane and progressive 4-wheel swap, timer differential. We reserve the right to alter the race format based on weather and track conditions on the day of the race–but we will race rain or shine.
